Self Portrait

charcoal pastel, 24" x 30", paper

The self portrait I drew was an experimental design. I wanted to incorporate some of my personal interests at that time, like log cabins and taxidermy. The composition and warm background made for a nice look. However, the flaws of the drawing and design showed through. There was too much emphasis on the shoes, as well as the traced, contrasted chair and elk head mount. The face was duller, resulting in diversion of attraction to the shoes, chair, and elk, instead of the face. Although the drawing itself wasn't as good as expected, it was very important to the developing of my design skills.
