charcoal pastel, 20" x 24", paper |
This picture was done in charcoal pastel in early 2013. I drew a blonde grizzly bear and her cubs standing in a stream. The long grass and the stream were inspired by a Yellowstone trip, and the bears were inspired by the huge blonde grizzlys I saw in Denali National Park. I drew the water, which I feel was the most successful part of the picture, by blending different tones of brown and gray, then highlighting the reflections with white. The picture has a little bit of glare from a glass, since the picture is inconvenient to remove from a frame.
